Recycling Is What Our Textile Remnants,
Secondhand Clothing
& Wipers Business Is All About.
Recycling is inherent in the very nature of our eco-friendly enterprise. By maximizing the usability of cast-off garments and textiles, we’re as green as green can be! In fact, our industry boasts a 93% recycling rate, which we achieve without producing any new hazardous waste or harmful products.
How do we do it? We expertly match garments and textiles to world markets that desire them most. We send vintage to Japan. Winter clothing to Eastern Europe and Chile. Cotton sweaters to Pakistan. T-shirts, baby clothes and shoes to Africa. The sorting, grading, and mining of used clothing and textile remnants is key to recycling items to markets where they do the most good.

However, the recycling doesn’t stop there. Used clothing that isn’t wearable is recycled into wiping cloths for cleaning factories and offices. Other non-wearable fabrics are shredded into shoddy to find new lives as carpet padding and insulation. Finally, coming full circle, garnetted fabric is also woven into yarn which is used to create new clothing and blankets.
As a member of SMART, the association for Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles, Whitehouse & Schapiro supports the industry’s ecological and sustainability efforts. We’re proud to be a leader in an industry that supports the environment as it serves the textile and clothing needs of countries throughout the world.
